What should an artist prepare before filming a visual?
Before filming a visual, an artist should know the song section they're using, the mood they want it to feel like, their wardrobe, and their performance. Being able to perform the record confidently, on time, matters more than any other preparation.
Bring the audio with you — a clean file, not a phone recording — and know which part of the song we're covering. Knowing the section keeps the shoot focused and gives us time to try more than one idea.
Two or three visual references are enough. Colors, lighting, a frame you liked from something else. References aren't there to copy; they're the fastest way for us to agree on a feeling before we start.
Wardrobe should be decided in advance and, if possible, brought as options. And leave a little room for something unplanned. Some of my favorite frames came from the last ten minutes of a session when the pressure was already off.
